Kara is a geologist in the UK & Ireland Mining, Engineering and Stability team at WSP, based in London. Over the past year and a half, following her graduation from University College Cork, she has worked predominantly on the geological and geotechnical aspects of international mining and geoenergy projects.
Her technical experience includes structural geology, rock mass and soil characterisation, discrete fracture network (DFN) modelling, slope stability assessments, and QA/QC of geotechnical and geological core logging. She has contributed to study-level assessments and operational mine planning across both open pit and underground mining environments, to support stability assessments, improve confidence in structural and geotechnical interpretations and efficiency in mine design workflows.
Kara’s work focuses on integration of technical rock mechanics with multidisciplinary mine planning to allow practical site level outcomes that improve extraction, safety, and project value. In addition to her technical role, she represents the Mining Early Career Professionals on the UK & Ireland Mining Health, Safety & Security Committee, where she supports initiatives focused on wellbeing, travel security, and fostering a positive safety culture.
