On the 9th - 13th May, 2022, we held our annual conference. As always, the event was free to attend, with all talks streamed live to our YouTube channel, and recorded and added to our online library - which you can access here.

If carried out in a responsible manner, mining can act as a core enabler for the Just Transition – yet at COP26, mining was hardly addressed. This week-long event aimed to bring together a range of stakeholders across the raw materials space to consider two key questions:

  1. What do we mean when we talk of a ‘Just Transition’; and
  2. What does the industry need to do, change, and share to ensure that mining gets a seat at the table and fulfils its potential as an enabler of a Just Transition.

We heard about the challenges and opportunities involved in the provision of raw materials for the transition to a low carbon future and explored the nuances of the phrase ‘Just Transition’ to ensure that we are being honest about what must be achieved if the mining sector is to act as a vehicle for positive social and environmental during this transition. The purpose of this conference was to bring together as broad a range of people and perspectives as possible to share views, debate key concepts, and understand what needs to happen next for the industry to play a positive role in securing a sustainable future.
