Johannes Drielsma & Volker Visotschnig – Systemic Consensing (SK-Prinzip®) as a means of building trust

ABSTRACT

How will you shape change? How do you begin to make difficult decisions in the absence of trust? SK can help increase the quality and speed of decision-making.

The way people decide is “decisive” for what they do together.

With SK, change is designed together transparently, based on respect, appreciation, and creativity. Organisations that decide with SK benefit more from the group intelligence of their members, are more cooperative, more resilient, and more self-motivated.

Objections and feelings of resistance are like sand in the gears of projects.

SK measures and minimises resistance in a pragmatic way, using objections as a resource for innovation. Even quieter people find their voice. Responsibility for decisions and the necessary follow-up is felt by all, which means that what gets decided gets implemented.

Is a proposal good enough for now, and safe enough to try?

Disagreement or blocking behaviour does not have to silence you. SK can be a ready-made emergency response plan, but more importantly it helps instil a culture of emergency avoidance. In almost all cases SK provides greater value-realisation than preference-based approaches.

A typical example of an SK result in www.acceptify.at will be presented.

Application in Battery Raw-Materials sector

The Global Battery Alliance (GBA), a multi-stakeholder organisation to establish a sustainable battery value chain, used SK to achieve on-time launch of its carbon foot-printing Rulebook in 2022. Inga Petersen, Executive Director of the GBA, said, “,.. the use of acceptify tools within the GBA Consensus Way really changed the mindset of working group members.” The GBA’s Board of Directors has subsequently applied SK throughout its Strategy Retreat in 2023 to decide strategic questions related to continuation of its programmes.

Systemic Consensing (SK-Prinzip®) has a systemic effect on participants.

Drawing attention to resistance – rather than preference – visibly changes the mindset of participants. Clients and students repeatedly report more human, more efficient functioning of their organisations following application of SK to achieve their aims. Through that timeless phenomenon of people working together through common challenges and difficulties to achieve something valuable together, SK builds team spirit and organisational strength, and ultimately higher levels of trust.
