Fiona Clouder has wide experience of Latin America, as a senior diplomat and now in the private sector, including on mining, energy and environment issues and associated geopolitics. Fiona was the UK´s Ambassador to Chile (2014-2018) and then Regional Ambassador, Latin America and Caribbean, COP26 (2020-2022), driving engagement with governments and business for a Net Zero world. Her career focus has included trade and investment, defence and prosperity, as well as science and innovation and environmental issues. She is also interested in the marine sector and maritime history and heritage.
From 2011 she led the FCO (Foreign & Commonwealth Office, now FCDO) strategy on Latin America (the Canning Agenda) to refocus and revitalise relations on all countries across the region. Fiona joined the FCO in 2001, from the Research Councils (now UKRI) to set up new work on science diplomacy and to build and lead the global Science and Innovation Network (UKSIN).
As well as her own consultancy, she works with The Ambassador Partnership. Fiona is also a Senior Advisor to Appian Capital Advisory – a leading investor in metals, mining and infrastructure; Director, Chilean Cobalt Corporation; Distinguished Fellow of RUSI (Royal United Services Institute); Chairman of the Anglo Chilean Society; and Board member of Canning House – the UK´s leading forum on Latin America.
